As a gypsy and free-spirit for most of my life, I can honestly say Kawartha Lakes is my home... My old farmhouse on half an acre here in town is full of gardens and possibilities. Having lived in many places since moving to Canada from New Jersey in 1973, I find that Fenelon Falls is special...I'm thankful to live here. My inspiration as a leathersmith and fine artist ranges from functional to fun, with an emphasis on Nature - often using knotwork, sacred geometry, and Indigenous, mythological and religious symbology and patterning. In my studio/home at 18 Murray Street in Fenelon Falls you will find acrylic paintings and leather wall hangings, sculptures, jewellery, masks, bags and leather pouches. My leather projects are hand-stitched with sinew, often using a wood-burner and leather dye on tooling leather...40 years as an artist still leads to a unique and ongoing evolution as I explore the potentials of my creativity. My studio is open by appointment or chance...catch me if you can!
In 2017, I had the pleasure of doing 2 murals for Kinmount, ON, and the Canada 150 celebration. I am currently involved in ongoing projects, including the creation of drawings for the stain glass windows at the Chabad Lubavitch in Markham. There are 16 completed and installed windows, with more on the way. I am supporting the Kawartha Art Gallery's Canvas Confidential on Saturday, April 21 — I have submitted a very beautiful (secret) piece for their auction and will lead one of the large canvas groups creating a piece that will also be auctioned off. Finally, I am on this years Victoria County Studio Tour with the studio being open 10-5 on September 29 to 30 and October 6 to 7.
Since the advent of becoming a lead singer and drummer, first with The Fenelon Falls Lockjammers and currently with the band, "Dig The Moon" I notice that music has crept into my paintings and has now a huge influence. How could it not? Playing in community, and for community lends a satisfaction that expresses itself through my artwork. As a band, we play many of the retirement and nursing homes in and around Kawartha Lakes. We also play for Community Care. Through this connection (3 years) I have developed a respect and rapport with the people of this area, and in turn feel myself embraced by the community of Fenelon Falls and Kawartha Lakes...
